Foundations + Playful Practice

  • The AI Toolkit for Educators is a hands-on, beginner-friendly professional learning experience designed to help teachers feel confident, curious, and capable using AI in real classroom settings.

  • This 5-session series blends clear instruction with playful experimentation, so educators can learn what AI is, how it fits into K–12 education, and how to use it responsibly and creatively to support teaching and learning. Each session includes guided practice and practical examples that teachers can immediately adapt for their own classrooms.

  • This workshop is ideal for educators who want structure, support, and classroom-ready tools. No prior AI experience is required.

What Educators Will Learn

Session 1: Welcome to the AI Playground – Getting Comfortable with AI
Educators are introduced to AI in a clear, teacher-friendly way. This session focuses on what AI actually is, how it is already being used in K–12 education, and how teachers can use tools like ChatGPT safely and effectively. Participants learn prompt basics and how to communicate clearly with AI tools to support their work.

 

Session 2: Using NotebookLM for Literacy & Inquiry – AI as a Thinking Partner
This session introduces NotebookLM as a support tool for reading, writing, and inquiry-based learning. Educators explore how AI can act as a research companion, support guided reading, and model research and data summaries for STEM and literacy instruction.

Session 3: Freemium AI Tools for Everyday Teaching – Tools You Can Use Tomorrow
Participants explore 3–5 high-impact free or freemium AI tools that support everyday teaching tasks. The focus is on practical classroom uses such as lesson planning, differentiation, behavior supports, and classroom routines. Teachers receive ready-to-use templates they can quickly adapt for their own classrooms.

Session 4: AI for Classroom Creativity – Images, Video & Visual Learning
This session focuses on creative and accessible uses of AI. Educators learn how to use AI tools to create images and short videos for literacy, science, and math instruction. Topics include storytelling with visuals, creating STEM explainers, and using multimodal tools to support diverse learners and accessibility needs.

Session 5: Gemini Basics + First Steps with Gems – Building Your First AI Assistant
Educators are introduced to Gemini and learn how Gems work as customizable AI assistants. This session covers connecting Gemini to Google Workspace and exploring classroom examples for STEM, literacy, classroom management, and teacher productivity. Teachers take their first steps toward building an AI assistant that supports their daily workflow.
